It wasn't an ideal opening day weather wise but for the Pirates it turned out okay anyway. Pitching on a cold wet day, Mollie Thibodeau gutted out four tough innings to lead the Pirates to a 10-9 win at New Lion's Field. Mary Perkins took the tough luck loss for the Angels, as she matched Mollie pitch for pitch and was able to pitch herself out of several jams.
There were several great plays in the game, but here are a few highlights:
The Pirates baserunning was excellent today, highlighted by Kate Miklavic's delayed steal of home with two outs which keyed a three run rally.
Anna Goldstein layed down a perfect bunt in the second inning advancing Kate Miklavic to third and netting her an infield single.
Shannon Nicholson and Kate Miklavic both hit shots to the outfield. Shannon was credited with two RBIs on her hit.
The Defense was in mid season form today with Colby Harvey saving a wild throw from going to the outfield, and Clarice Diebold quickly getting a ball back to the cuttoff to prevent a run from scoring. Two runners were also thrown out attmpting to steal home.
The teams meet again tomorrow at Plaisted for a rematch. Game time is 2:30 and all concerned are hoping for a dry afternoon.
