The Cape Elizabeth 9-10 baseball all-stars ran their district 6 tournament record to 3-0 with a comeback win versus a well-coached Falmouth team in a well-played 4-2 win at Volunteer Field in Westbrook tonight. Whereas the bats were the story in the first two victories, defense ruled the day in this win as the Capers played errorless ball.
Reese took the mound and threw well, efficiently going 5 and 1/3 innings before yielding to Marshall who struck out the last batter of the game with the bases loaded. Marshall also started the play of the game, fielding a single to left and firing to Tim who relayed it to Devon to nail a runner trying to score from second in the 5th inning to maintain a two run lead.
Trailing 2-1 in the fourth, the Capers tied it on a single by Matt and took the lead for good when the red-hot John singled with the bases loaded to score two runs. Aaron, Tim, Reese, Robert and Devon also added hits and Aaron made three catches in center. R.J. had a great catch in left as well to limit the first inning damage by Falmouth to one run.
The Capers take the field again tomorrow night versus Windham in their first game under the lights at 7:30 p.m. A win would advance them to the district 6 final game(s).
