The Rangers faced a tough Cubs team Tuesday night at Plaisted in the regular season finale with first place overall on the line and got a big game from several of its rookies to surge to a 9-3 victory. Nate got the start and pitched well with seven strikeouts in five innings. He got some help behind him on defense with some solid play at second by Cooper, a nice catch in right by Justin, and solid defense at the hot corner by Brett. Matt was solid behind the plate as well. Nat took the mound in the sixth to close out the game with two strikeouts.
Ross led the offense with his keen eye, reaching base five times on four walks and a hit and scoring two runs. The Rangers scored runs in five of the six innings with strong offensive games by Sean(two hits, two RBIs) and Brett(two hits, one run). Matt added a hit and two RBIs and Justin had a big hit to right and a run. Nat also had a big hit to left and scored a run. Seven different Rangers scored runs on the night.
The Rangers will have a couple of days off before facing a tough Phillies squad in the first game of the playoffs. Regardless of their performance during the playoffs, the team should be proud of its performance during the regular season in a very tough league with excellent teams.
