The 11/12 baseball team opened the District 6 Little League baseball tournament with a 6-0 victory over Westbrook Saturday afternoon at Wilkinson Park in South Portland.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Brendan struck out 13 batters – including a game-ender to preserve the shutout with the bases loaded – and walked only one. Westbrook managed four hits, all on ground balls.

Offensively, we rapped out nine hits, including two each by Matt and Carson. We took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Nat's two-out RBI single that scored Brendan (walk) from second base after Matt opened the game with a sharp double that skipped just inside third base.

Carson made it 2-0 in the fourth with a solo home run to right center. Brendan broke it open with a three-run homer in the fifth following a two-out single by Matt and walk to Jacob A.

We added an insurance run in the sixth on singles by Carson, Jacob J. and David. Our other basehit came in the second when Alex singled with two out.

On defense, David and Finn caught fly balls in left and center, Brendan caught a pop-up back to the mound, Nat handled a grounder at first base and Brendan and Jacob A. combined on a force at second base.

The victory means we play South Portland American Monday night at 5:30. If we win, we play next Saturday at 5. If not, we play next Saturday at 2 p.m.
