No rust was evident as the District 6 champion Cape 9/10 SB All Stars swept District 2 champs Medomak Valley and District 4 champs Biddeford in State Tournament pool play today by scores of 24-7 and 11-1, respectively. Despite a 10-day layoff since winning the District 6 championship, the Capers cruised through both "mercy-rule" shortened games in Waldoboro, Maine to finish first in their group.

In the morning game, Cape, as visitors, faced Medomak Valley, the tournament hosts. Displaying their offensive might, the Capers saw virtually every player in the line-up reach base and/or score runs. Cape put the game far out of reach with a 12-run third inning in which 18 batters came up to the dish. On the defensive side, Anna pitched 3 solid innings, striking out 7, and Abbey tossed one inning as well.

In the afternoon, Cape again drew the "visitors" role and took on Biddeford. The game appeared to start as a pitcher's duel as Anna and her opposite number battled to a 1-1 tie after 2 innings, both runs scoring via walks and passed balls. However, BIddeford's hurler loss command of the strike zone, and Cape plated three runs and seven runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively, mostly through patient at-bats that drew numerous walks and forced in many of the runs. A few of the runs were also helped along by some balls put in play and alert base running by Hannah and K-Mart among others. Anna, in peak tournament form at this point, pitched all four innings and rang up all 12 Biddeford outs as K's. Esme, Clara, Helena, Abigail, Analise, Kat, Cadillac, Haley and Dana all were in on the action today as team gears up for the final push to the state championship on Tuesday.

Cape will play District 1 champion Ellsworth in a semifinal on Tuesday afternoon for a berth in the Tuesday evening state final. The other semifinal will feature District 5 champion Lewiston against the winner of this evening's Biddeford-Medomak Valley game. One team, one goal!
