Members of the Maine State Champion Scarborough/Cape Elizabeth Little League Junior All-Star Softball team represented the state of Maine at the Little League Softball World Series Eastern Regional Tournament from July 20-26, in Orange, CT. The team, which consists of 7th and 8th-grade girls from Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth, went undefeated to win the Maine State championship and went 20-3 on the season. The team was formed when neither town had enough players to put together their own team. Both towns had competed against each other for many years in the Little League District 6 all-star tournament. The team made it to the semi-finals of the Eastern Regional Tournament against Rhode Island. Maine nearly pulled off a huge upset, against the eventual Eastern Regional Champions, coming back from 7-0 early to take an 11-10 lead into the bottom of the 7th with one out before Rhode Island pulled off a 12-11 walk-off win. Maine went 3-3 in the Eastern Regional Tournament competing against teams from New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions.

The players have become great friends and their journey continues as the team was selected by Dunkin Donuts to be seated in the "Dunkin Dugout" at Fenway Park during the Boston Red Sox's home game on August 17. With their selection, the team will be provided with round trip transportation to Fenway Park, food, and tickets in the Dunkin Dugout for team members and coaches.
